Monitoring of the Constituzione bridge in Venice

Description of monitoring

The monitoring and the prepared hydraulic system aims to detect the progress of the tensional and deformation state of the structure, automatically triggering an alarm in the event of instability or in any case of conditions considered abnormal and to compensate for the possible horizontal failure on the abutments through the controlled thrust of 12 hydraulic jacks.

The machinery for the recovery of horizontal subsidence consists of:
• 12 hydraulic jacks (6 per abutment);
• 2 high pressure hydraulic control units (700 bar) with remote control and pressure measurement with computerised system;
• hydraulic system with 6 independent controls with remote control;
• 6 LVDT displacement sensors to be set up on the heads for precision control of the displacements ;
• 6 1,000 bar pressure transducers for pressure control;
• 12-channel acquisition unit for monitoring displacements and command pressures.

All tension and deformation data are collected telemetrically by a data acquisition unit and downloaded periodically for inspection purposes. The same control unit alerts 4 Emme technicians via a GSM alarm, in order to monitor the structure 24 hours a day.

Constant surveillance over the bridge is represented by the infrared IP camera, mounted on the pillar of the ACTV ticket office in Piazzale Roma. The users involved can connect to this directly through the navigation browser, following some simple instructions.

Camera

4 EMME Service S. p. a., specialists in the execution of experimental testing on structures on site, was commissioned by the Municipality of Venice to build a recovery system in case of horizontal subsidence of the abutments, and the creation of a system for monitoring the deformation parameters of the Costitiuzione Bridge in Venice which connects Piazzale Roma to the foundations of the FF.SS Santa Lucia Railway Station. – S. Lucia.

In order to connect to the camera for the first time, we recommend downloading and printing the PDF file containing all the instructions for the initial configuration (download Adobe Reader).

Configuration operations only need to be carried out the first time you connect to the camera.
